We Survived

Today is a special day.  Twenty years ago today dh and I welcomed our first son into the world.  I was 23, dh was 25.  We were young and in a foreign country with no family around.  Ds1 was two weeks late and it was a stressful birth…he spent 5 days in the nicu.  But he came through with flying colors and has been the most wonderful blessing to us.   This birthday is special as he is no longer a teenager.  We got him through those angst filled years.  We move on to young adulthood.  Already I can see the changes, him beginning to blossom and grow into the man he will be.  So very special.

Dh and I have always appreciated that we were blessed with our sons so many years apart.  We feel we got to really enjoy each and every one of them and their own “wonder years” before another sibling came along.  None of them are in the same stage at the same time and this has blessed and (I think) saved us.  I think it also gives us all hope…we made it through our first teenager, and we will make it through three more times.  Cue Gloria Gaynor.  (Oh, I really dated myself with that one lol.)  “I will survive!”  Happy Birthday ds1.

  2. Happy birthday to your son. It's funny though. Our kids are incredibly close together (4 kids in 4 years) and we are so glad that they are all in a group. We love having them so close. Isn't it great how God gives us each exactly what is best for us?
