Book Review: Oh My Stars

I haven't done a book review in a while, even though I have been keeping up with my Spring Reading Thing Challenge...I've only got 3 more books on my list to read before June 24! I just might get it done, but it's okay if I don't. I have really enjoyed all the reading. The book I finished last night (and stayed up late to get in the last few pages) was Oh My Stars by Lorna Landvic. I read Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons last year for a book club and liked it a lot, so when I came upon this book at a books sale I grabbed it. However, it's been sitting on my shelf a while...it just didn't seem to be in the same realm as Angry Housewives, and the blurbs about it weren't very enticing to me. But it was on my reading list, so I tackled it.

I'm so glad I did! Truly this book has a storyline I haven't come across before. You know, after you have read so many books, you start to see the same story just told in a different manner. So Oh My Stars turned out to be quite refreshing for me. Now I can't say I've never encountered the issues the author writes about in other books...racism, the Depression, unrequited love...but her take on them and the story she comes up with will keep you turning the pages and coming back for more. The story is told alternately in 1st and 3rd person, giving you little clues and details without spoiling anything. You will grow to love and root for Violet as she recounts her exciting past, and the twists and turns the plot takes will keep your interest for sure.

  1. Wow, I am so behind on reading. I admire that you have done so much. I would be happy if I could get a chapter a day in. I love to read. It seems in the last year I just have not made time for it. Good for you!
