Exercise Challenge

49586

Yeah, may as well just change the title to "Exercise is a challenge" lol.  Sigh.  I have been deep in the throes of planning our next school year and have let everything else go by the wayside.  Yep, everything, including exercise.  I think I should say especially exercise, seeing as how I did actually manage to throw a load of laundry in and run a few dishes under some water every now and again.  But did I ever take 30 minutes and slip in a Leslie dvd?  No.  Sigh.

So answer me this.  Why do you lose physical stamina so quickly?  I mean it's been two weeks since I exercised.  I popped in a dvd yesterday morning and did a measly 1 mile walk.  And it was a workout!  I mean my arms hurt after only lifting them by themselves, no weights or anything.  What's up with that?  I got mad that I only slacked off for a few weeks and seem to have lost any and all stamina or fitness I acquired in the past months of working out.  Phooey.  (Oh come on spell checker!  You redline dvd but not phooey?!?  And redline is an acceptable word?  I guess my grasp of vocabulary is better than I thought.)

Anywho, we have one week before we start school again.  I am spending this week getting everyone, including me, back on a schedule.  Do you know how hard that is when it doesn't get dark here until, like, 9pm?  So it's back to getting up earlier than the kids (although this summer 9am has been getting up earlier than the kids lol,) exercising, and starting my day off the right way.  Why doesn't the right way feel as good as the sleep-in-and-read-books-all-day way?

  4. You DO lose stamina quickly don't you? I took a week and a half off because I hurt my shoulder doing weights....and wow...it was like slogging through mud when I started again two weeks ago. NOW I'm back up to more intense workouts than I've ever done...but I was shocked how quickly I lost it. LOL

You asked on my blog about aerobics and weights. I know I should do both but at this point I'm focusing on aerobics. I NEED consistent 60 min of cardio to lose 1/2 - 1 lb a week....I've tried circuit, I've tried adding weights and cutting the cardio to 45 or 30 min and I quit losing weight. Pure and simple. So....I need to figure out how to add weights in to the routine and KEEP the level of cardio that I need. I wonder if when I get about 10 lbs off if I can use a bit less cardio to lose. I don't know.

I did Curves for over a year because I was SURE it was the ticket for me...but I had to finally admit that I'd gained weight and it wasn't working for MY body. I loved Curves. LOL

There's the long winded answer to your quick question on my blog. LOL

  6. Thanks for the comment (I decided to comment on this first...not sure why. Fickle Mommy Moment, I suppose)

I lost 40 lbs with Spark People in a year...but I find that I always find excuses not to exercise and it's been about two months since I've done any form of physical exercise (and the scale shows it).

I guess our bodies get as used to exercise as it gets used to slothfulness. I noticed that yesterday, when I got up from the floor, the squat was a little more challenging than it used to be.

Exercise is a challenge for me. It will continue to be a challenge for me since school starts next week (I'll have the same schedule as the kiddos).

But you know...I think this is a case of having to suck it up, put on our big girl panties and deal with it, ya know? We will always make room in our schedule for what is most important to us.

We need to make exercise a priority. Pure and simple.

Glad I'm not the only one who struggles though. Misery truly does love company.

Good luck in your schooling this year!

  7. Hey Julie,

Looks like we've all been lazy this summer and feeling the same way you are. Ouch! ;-)

  8. Hi Julie,
You are so right about that losing stamina thing. If I skip two days in a row of walking, the next day I feel like I never even started. The worst thing about it is that walking is doing NOTHING for me that is visible. And yet I continue to torture myself. I love your attitude, the questions etc -- maybe we are soulmates or something, lol. If this were me writing your entry, I would be feeling a lot grumpier about all this than I mean to let on in a blogpost. :o)
I have never read Amy Tan... I don't read much fiction, but there are a few secular authors I like. Maybe I'll go check her out.
    Wishing you exercising success!
