Carpet Day

What, you’ve never heard of Carpet Day?  The day the guy comes to install your new carpet and you have to leave the house with your two young children ALL DAY?  All I have to say is thank goodness it only comes around once every 10 years or so.  ;)

The boys and I did manage to keep busy and have plenty of fun.  I have to say that it is harder than it seems to stay out and about all day, especially when it’s very cold out and you can’t take advantage of outdoor activities.

The boys have been bugging me lately to go bowling so that’s where we went first.  Funnily enough, the owners of the alley are homeschoolers as well!  The mom looked right at my boys and knew just what grades they were in and their shoe sizes lol.  We bowled next to a ladies league and two old men.  They all loved watching my boys.

IMG_5946 Ds4 actually took this pic because he liked the old man bowling next to us.  If you look to the left you can see that he captured ds3 jumping up and down after a good shot.  :)

Bowling took up a good hour.  Only 7 more to go!  We drove into town and ate a fast food lunch.  It was thrilling to the boys because we actually ate in the restaurant…when we rarely do get fast food we bring it home.  Lucky my kids are so easily entertained.  ;)  I racked my brain for some place to go that would be warm and help expend the boys’ energy and remembered that the place we went to for my nephew’s bday had an indoor play area.  Bingo!

Only 6 bucks and we practically had the place to ourselves.

An indoor climbing/sliding place with three levels.  Too cool.

IMG_5974 They had a blast.  After this we went to the bookstore and browsed around a bit.  This is when the whining set in…"I want to go home!”  “I’m tired!” “I miss daddy!”  The boys told me to pipe down and just be patient for goodness sakes.  ;)

Finally it was time to pick up ds2 from school and head home.  The men weren’t completely finished, but had the bedrooms completed and that’s where we retreated.

IMG_5978 Wherein the boys took to my “never before seen empty” closet and began assembling their new lego boxes.  Ds3 began drawing up plans to move in (my bed can go here, the desk here…) and I had to regretfully inform him that he could not live in my bedroom closet, no matter how badly he wanted his own room.  Hey, if I can’t have my own room then he can’t either.  Only fair.

So that’s how we spent Carpet Day 2010.  Join us again in ten years for more fun and festivities!

P.S.  Yes, the new carpet has already been officially “christened.”  A cat puked in ds2’s room over the weekend.  The boys all breathed a sigh of relief that it wasn’t one of them.

  1. That sounds exactly like something that would happen at our house. The cats are determined to have hair balls on the rugs and not the wood floors.
Glad you had such a fun carpet day!

  2. You know, it probably would have gone the same way for my family and me too. Glad you had a good "carpet day". Thanks for the chuckles!
