LOL, it's EXACTLY the same in my home. I have given Target his own office chair, but he sleeps on my keyboard. Au has a rug, but he nicks my chair. Yes, we are doomed :-)
Where there's comfort there's cats, but maybe they like your company and don't want you to use the computer..... you never know what on the kitties minds! :)
Lol! I can completely understand where you are coming from. I have the same problem. I'm glad the new carpet is installed an you are still sane!
