Product Review: Gatorade Beat The Heat Campaign

Print

Thanks to Mom Central the boys and I get to help spread the word about a very important issue.  Right now across the country, as our youngsters head back to school, many also head back to team sports and hours upon hours of practice in hot, humid conditions.  Gatorade’s Beat the Heat campaign helps to educate coaches, parents and athletes themselves about the serious issues of heat-related illnesses.  The more we know about and are aware of these issues the better to prevent them.  As moms we are the first link in this chain…we must educate ourselves and our children about heat safety and proper hydration.  Gatorade is offering a free Heat Safety Kit for download.  It is full of important facts about proper hydration and easy tips for preventing heat-related illnesses.  Some of the key points include:

  • Wearing light equipment during practices and taking off helmets when not playing
  • Changing out of sweat soaked clothing
  • Keeping hydrated before, during and after a practice or game

We’ve all heard that water is not enough to keep athletes properly hydrated but did you know why?  It’s not just that when we sweat we lose electrolytes, but when we drink just water, our body’s thirst perception may be turned off before we are truly hydrated.  The electrolytes in Gatorade help maintain the stimulus to drink so athletes drink enough.  And Gatorade does a super job in making the drinks appealing to the kiddos, providing great tasting flavors and numerous package options.  We were sent some low-calorie G2 in Fruit Punch, Grape and Glacier Freeze flavors, all of which my boys enjoyed.

Even if you don’t have an athlete in the family you can still help out with this campaign.  For every unique download of the free Heat Safety Kit,  Gatorade will donate $1 to “Beat the Heat” charities up to $20,000.   I think it’s great when a company gives back, and I encourage you all to join in.

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Gatorade’s “Beat the Heat” campaign and received Gatorade samples to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.”
