Product Review: Mad Science KNOW Magazine

knowlogo

Thanks to Mom Central, the boys and I were able to try out a wonderful resource for science.  KNOW magazine is geared to children ages 6-9 and is published 6 times a year.  Each issue has a theme (the latest issue is shapes and patterns) that children explore through simple but thorough readings, fun experiments and virtual “field trips.”   I was impressed with how many different ways shapes and patterns were presented to readers.  Not only did the magazine cover the traditional areas of mathematical patterns and shapes in everyday objects, but also origami and t-shirt printing.  The variety kept my boys and I interested throughout the issue.

The experiments, projects and various puzzlers were simple and used common household items.  They provided a fun way to reinforce the theme.  The website features a page with the current issue’s experiments laid out as well as a teacher’s guide page with even more ideas for activities and links to explore the theme further.  This made my job as a homeschool mom much easier!

A year’s subscription is $24.95 for Canadian residents and $26.00 in the United States.  For such a colorful and informative resource and all the helpful web content, it’s a good deal.

  1. That magazine looks like so much fun! It makes me wish I had kids young enough to do these fun things with. :)
