TOS Review: Artistic Pursuits

b_aplogo_01

Artistic Pursuits offers a series of books for teaching art specifically for homeschoolers.  As their site states, “The Artistic Pursuits program presents both the expressive and the technical aspects of art in an age-appropriate manner.”  They offer material for all levels, from Pre-K to high school.  The boys and I received K-3 Book 3, Modern Painting and Sculpture for our review.

10_k-3_3 There are 32 lessons in this book covering modern artists and their styles and techniques.  For each lesson there is a page that introduces an artist or movement and activity pages that walk a child through a project related to the lesson.

At the beginning of the book is a complete list of art supplies you will need for the program.  Actually, it’s not just an ordinary list, there are pictures of examples of the products.  I cannot tell you how helpful this was for this art novice homeschooling mom! I took the book with me to the store and could see exactly what they were talking about.   The website even has art supply packs available to save you the shopping around.

Ds3 and ds4 have been enjoying this program.  It is designed to provide gentle instruction in technique yet allow for creative expression.  Both boys have looked forward to our weekly lessons.

I had looked into using Artistic Pursuits in the past, but the price was an issue.  Now that I have used the program I can fully justify the cost.  The books are non-consumable and can be used with different levels.  The projects are beautifully illustrated and easy to implement.  The lessons are just the right mix of instruction and application and make it quite easy to add art to your homeschooling.

Artistic Pursuits books are available on the website for $42.95.

I received a copy of Artistic Pursuits K-3 Book 3 to facilitate this review.  I received no other compensation.  To see other TOS Crewmember reviews, click on the banner below.

  1. Hey maybe the boys will turn out to be little Picassos or Rembrandts - but with well adjusted minds and happy lives!
