Well I did it.  I finished my very first book of the new year (well new millennium actually.)  Ds3 woke up early this morning with a tummy ache and eventually crashed on the couch.  I spent the morning waiting for him to wake up and decide if he was going to be sick or not and got through Everyone Is Beautiful by Katherine Center.  This book was quite the rage last year in the blogosphere (holy cow the spell checker knew what blogosphere was!) but my library didn’t carry it and I couldn’t win it anywhere so I never got to be part of all the fun.  Then I received an Amazon gift certificate and got to buy the book for myself!

I can see what the fuss was about…it’s a very good read.  It’s light and easy, but certainly not fluff.  It’s full of seemingly boring every day events, but they are presented with humor and some deliciously refreshing insight.  I enjoyed getting to know the main character, Lanie, and watch her transition from self, to couple, to mom and finally to a version of herself everyone could live with.  Along the way we get a little romance, some grief, some mystery and a lot of bodily fluids.  Yep, not for the faint of heart.  Of course we moms can handle it lol.  The only problem I had with the book?  There is cursing.  It’s not terribly intrusive, but it is there.

Now for the good part!  I want to give my copy of Everyone Is Beautiful away to a good home.  My shelves are full to busting and I am in a giving mood so take advantage of it.  ;)  Just leave me a comment and a way to reach you and I will pick a foster reader on Monday, January 18th.  Good luck!

  1. How rude of me, to leave a comment asking for something...as my first comment here.

    Sorry.

I'd still like to win though...

...I'd also like to be able to homeschool my kiddos in the sunshine state. But here we are...in lovely NE Arkansas :) Very jealous.

  2. I'm always on the lookout for a good book to read! Even though my shelves are overflowing to the garage already. I promise if I win that I won't tell my DH where I got the book from. :)

  3. It sounds like a good book. I've never heard of it though. I guess I am behind.
