Valentine’s Day 2010

We have had what I would consider a strange Valentine’s day, but the boys are happy with it lol.  We are in full “tearing up the house getting ready for new carpet” mode.  Nothing is in it’s place, the cats are going crazy, there is dust EVERYWHERE, so I kept things simple this year.

We signed up last month for a Valentine’s exchange on The Homeschool Lounge and I am so glad we did!  This morning the boys opened their boxes.  I only have pics of ds3 as ds4 was so excited he brought his box into my bed first thing this morning lol.

The hearts mobile was my attempt to decorate, but dh had to pull them down to make room for furniture.  Ah well.

The boys decorated a glass jar with hearts and I filled it with suckers and invited everyone to “Guess how many.”  Btw, there were 68 and ds3 came the closest with his guess of 62.

IMG_5848  For lunch I made little heart shaped open sandwiches, with peanut butter piped around the edge and strawberry jelly filling in the heart.

IMG_5851 I didn’t even buy them anything this year, not one card or treat (well, besides the suckers.)  I found so many cute sweets to make on the internet that I just made up a plate of those as my love offering…it was gladly accepted lol.  We have marshmallows (skewered on straws as I couldn’t find popsicle sticks) dipped in colored sugar, shortbread heart cookies with white chocolate frosting (soooo good!) and peanut butter hearts covered in chocolate (taste good, look bad, HORRIBLE to try and make.)

Dh and I didn’t do anything this year for the occasion (carpet seems like a pretty nice gift lol) but I did get a Valentine…from the neighbor girl!  I saw her and a friend playing in the street and offered them both a shortbread cookie.  A little later the door bell rings and they are there offering up little Valentine’s cards (complete with tiny tattoos) for me, dh and the boys.  Too sweet.  Hope everyone enjoyed their day in a way that was special to them.  :)
